Le Pressoir, Mortain, Normandy
This month’s featured property is NM003946 Le Pressoir, a beautifully restored barn conversion with over twenty 10/10 reviews, located near Mortain in Manche, Normandy.
The cottage has a lovely double bedroom and is a perfect escape for couples with its ornate spiral staircase and feature woodburner giving a real romantic feel.
Sympathetic barn restoration and conversion
Le Pressoir is owned by Karen and Andy Williams from Norfolk who worked on the property for 5 years until 2012 when they finally decided to follow their hearts and permanently moved into their home in France.
Restoring the house has been an amazing journey for Karen and Andy, and they always look forward to welcoming their guests and pride themselves on always being on hand to help in any way they can to make sure their guests have the holiday they are hoping for.
Mixing traditional charm and character with practicality
The property still maintains a lot of its original charm with a lovely vaulted ceiling, exposed stone walls and wooden beams. Downstairs is a practical open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area that looks out on to the garden through 2 sets of traditional French doors and is tastefully decorated with neutral colours which gives the space a light and spacious feel.
Upstairs is a luxurious French bed in the beamed bedroom, and additional seating is available on the mezzanine.
Wood for the burner is included in the rental rate and there is underfloor heating available in winter months which makes Le Pressoir extremely suitable for out of season breaks.
A tranquil retreat perfect for exploring Normandy
Outside the property there is a lovely south facing garden with its own separate entrance. There is a small lawn, and a seating area with a bbq, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some al fresco dining with a glass of wine on a warm summer’s evening.
Le Pressoir offers the best of both worlds to guests as it is well placed to explore the many tourist attractions of Basse Normandie, yet its rural location means it is also ideal for a tranquil retreat to get away from it all.
Local attractions
Guests can drive through the Andaine Forest to the beautiful town of Bagnoles de l’Orne set around a central lake in picturesque gardens or visit the pretty village of Lonlay l’Abbaye with its ancient Abbey and famous biscuit factory just 5 miles from the gite!
For visitors who fancy travelling further afield, the world renowned Mont St Michel is just 45 minutes by car and several other pretty coastal towns and the D-Day Landing beaches can be reached within an hour and a half.
A week’s stay at Le Pressoir starts from just £300.
