Make France your favourite fishing destination! Five places for a fabulous fishing trip…
France is a great place to go fishing – with the right bait and technique there are Carp, Perch, Pike and many other species of fish to catch. Plan a break at one of our many holiday homes with on-site fishing; as well as the luxury of your own private lake you’ll have a chance to get advice from the owners, often resident fishing enthusiasts themselves, who will be able to help you get a new PB during your stay! Here are five places you’ll find fisherman (or woman) friendly, and ideal for an angling holiday in France:
1. Carphunters Lake, Saint-Aubin-des-Chateaux, Western Loire (LA001981)
This lake is ideal for serious anglers, Mark the owner carefully manages the 4 acre Carp lake stocked with Mirror, Common, Grass and Wild Carp with the record weight for a catch currently standing at 48lb 9oz! Fishing is limited to 4 anglers at a time and night fishing is also allowed here. There is a comfortable two bed mobile home to stay in and the site is just 5 mins from the local creperie/restaurant and close to the historic town of Chateaubriant.
2. The Lakehouse, Lezignac-Durand, Poitou Charentes (PC007115)
Owner Colin Belton, himself a keen fisherman, has lovingly restored this beautiful chalet right on the banks of Lac de Mas Chaban. It’s a luxurious, peaceful setting with stunning views of the lake, a private infinity pool, and a chance to birdwatch, sunbathe, swim and visit local chateaux. The lake itself offers Carp, Catfish, Zander, Pike, Perch, Roach, Bream, Bass and Rudd so you’re spoilt for choice for the catch of the day!
3. Lac de la Grange, Rochechouart, Limousin (UH004325)
This large holiday home is suitable for up to 10 guests and has the use of a fabulous 6 acre fishing lake. Quality fishing tackle is available to hire if you need to, and there is a tackle hut and bait fridge for your use. The lake is stocked with Carp between 15-45lbs in weight as well as Roach, Tench, Perch and Pike. Only 4 anglers can fish at one time and you can reserve the lake for your private use during your stay. This is a great way to combine fishing and family with lots to see and do in the area, the guest reviews speak for themselves!
4. Gite de l’Etang, Secondigny, Poitou Charentes (PS003202)
A charming two bedroom gite overlooking two private fishing lakes that are stocked with Carp, Tench, Roach, Bream, Pike and Zander. The spring-fed lakes in 2.5 hectares of gardens make for a wonderfully relaxing place to stay. It’s not really a child-friendly property but your dog will be most welcome! There are other fishing spots to try nearby too, just ask the owners for their local angling knowledge.
5. La Chatouillette, Saint-Georges-de-Rouelley, Normandy (NM002979)
This lovely two bedroom lakeside gite in Manche has a balcony terrace with views over a mature and well-stocked Carp lake set in 7 acres of grounds. Fishing tackle and bait can be arranged on request and guests at the gite have exclusive use of the 1 acre lake during your stay. The River Rouerie skirts the edge of the property and the fishing port of Honfleur is also close by for those hoping to try river or sea fishing during their holiday.
Whether you’re a keen angler or it’s something you’ve always wanted to try, a fishing holiday in France is a wonderfully relaxing choice. With great food and wine, plenty of attractions and outings available nearby for others in your group, and large fish in beautiful, well-managed lakes exclusively reserved for your use, a fishing trip has never been so much fun!
