Ti Hanv, Cotes d’Armor, Brittany

Ti Hanv is a luxury cottage with a private south facing walled garden in the centre of Pontrieux, Cotes d’Armor, Brittany.

A chance viewing 30 years ago

The property is owned by Kay Allan who purchased the property back in 1989. Kay says “We were on holiday in France with the family. We visited Pontrieux which is a ‘Petite Cite de Charactere’ and a Ville Fleurie and saw a house with a sign ‘A Vendre’. The owner was standing in the road, chatting to a neighbour. When we enquired about price, she asked us if we would like to see the house. That was it, we fell in love with it and went back to buy the house in the autumn. That impulse was 30 years ago and we’ve enjoyed holidays and being part of village life there ever since.”

The Breton style property can sleep 4 in 2 bedrooms and has been fully renovated with a fresh and modern interior. The ground floor of Ti Hanv is open plan with a well-equipped kitchen with everything you could need to prepare a meal at one end and a light and airy living area with feature wood burning stove at the other.

Upstairs you will find two good sized bedrooms with lovely views over the colourful garden.

Colourful south facing garden

The property has a lovely walled garden, a patio with a barbecue for al fresco dining and a summer house for the exclusive use of guests. The garden is south facing and bathes in sunshine throughout the summer. Kay takes pride in the garden being colourful and smelling delightful, filled with trees, roses and a grapevine.

Ti Hanv is within easy walking distance to the Breton town of Pontrieux which is a pretty port town with lots of cafes, restaurants and a supermarket. You will also find numerous festivals held here throughout the summer and be sure not to miss market day on a Monday.

The local area is great for walking and you can set of from Pontrieux on the GR341 along the River Treiux with many spots to stop off for a picnic or to do a spot of bird watching along the riverbank.

Close to sandy beaches

Many large sandy beaches can be reached within a 20-25 minute drive along miles of stunning coastline with panoramic views. Kay’s favourite local beach is Plage Bonaparte which they believe is the most stunning beach in the region. They say “At low tide there is a mile of golden sand which is covered at high tide so it is incredibly clean. You can walk down on to the beach at Bonaparte and walk for 20 minutes until you reach Gwin Zegal, a sweet harbour with tree trunks to moor boats and stop erosion, then back along the cliff – but take care to check tide times as you could end up getting wet feet or even cut off!”

A week’s stay at Ti Hanv starts at £480pw.
