L’Andoussiere, near Vieillevigne, Vendee, Western Loire

Bryan and Alison Skinner’s 4 bedroom farmhouse, equipped to sleep 10, is set in a peaceful country village close to some of the natural beauty sites of north-western France, and comes with it’s own private heated swimming pool.

Rural allure of the Pays de la Loire

CyclingWhether you prefer an activity filled holiday or a nice relaxing week away, this villa can cater for both. Surrounded by forests and lakes in a small rural village of the western Pays de la Loire region, you have the option to stay secluded in your private surroundings or to participate in the many nearby activities such as horse riding, water sports, cycling and more. Or perhaps, take a visit to one of France’s sites of natural beauty, the Lac de Grand-Lieu just 23km away.

The converted farmhouse

With such a large amount of sleeping space and fantastic amenities provided, this spacious 4 bedroom wood-beamed farmhouse would be an excellent accommodation choice for families, groups of adults and special occasion parties.

Inside, there are three large ground floor bedrooms (one room with bunk beds and a wash basin, one room with a double and single bed and the third with a double bed and wash basin) and one large bedroom upstairs with a single and double bed. There’s also a living room kitted out with a 3 piece leather suite, a 28-inch TV with English satellite channels and a DVD player. Outside, there is a heated swimming pool with an electric cover, sun loungers and tables and chairs, adult and children bicycles, a variety of games, such as table tennis and darts and also an fully-equipped BBQ terrace.

Fabulous local produce

When it comes to stocking up the large family kitchen that this property offers, there are no worries. After using the free internet access to search for some great French recipes, just a five minute drive down the road, you can find a selection of markets, supermarkets and bakeries that can provide you with a bountiful selection of delicious French ‘viennoiseries’ and other delectable produce.

When asked why they chose this particular area of France, Bryan says “We chose the area originally 25 years ago. Our car broke down and we were very kindly helped by locals who even gave us lodging while our car was repaired. Now they are good friends, many are wine growers, hence our excellent contacts for buying wine.”

Now living just 15km away in their B&B, the Skinners are always close by if you need a helping hand during your stay.

Bryan’s recommendations in Vendee

If you don’t fancy cooking, or just fancy spoiling yourselves, why not visit the 2* Michelin restaurant Chateau de la Chabotterie.

Bryan also strongly recommends investigating the award-winning Puy de Fou theme park, if you are in the mood for entertainment, with dramatic shows taking you through many centuries of France’s history:

“A star attraction not well known in UK is the Puy de Fou – an unforgettable historic-themed experience, recently rated as the best entertainment park of its type in the world with spectacular shows running day and night… a world class must see!”

A week’s stay at L’Andoussiere starts from £495.
