Le Moulin de la Touche, Plouguenast, Brittany
Our property of the month for January is Le Moulin de la Touche in the Côtes d’Armor, Brittany. Set in 10 acres surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, Le Moulin is in a fact a collection of six rental cottages catering for families or groups of up to 62 people. The tranquil, secluded grounds include meadow, forest and a trout fishing river, but seclusion doesn’t mean isolation: the bustling village of Plouguenast is just half a kilometre away.
This area of Brittany is famous for its rugged coastlines such as the Pink Granite and Emerald coasts, as well as its charming medieval towns including St Brieuc and Perros Guirec on the coast, and Dinan on the River Rance.
Seafood lovers flock here to sample fresh local scallops (the area is said to be Europe’s scallop capital). There are plenty of recommended eateries nearby to sample the delicacy, along with mouth-watering seafood of every type: try “La Mullette” at Moncontour or “La Bisquine” in Loudeac.
Activities and attractions near the properties
There’s plenty to see and do in the area. Le Moulin de la Touche is centrally located making the beaches of the North and West coasts easily accessible, and the various medieval towns with their picturesque streets, cathedrals and castles are well worth a visit. This area is also famous for various festivals throughout the yearand many towns treat visitors to live music throughout the summer months – pop into the local Tourist Office for a listing.
For daredevils, tree walking, quad biking and hang-gliding can all be found nearby. If you can’t drag yourself away from Le Moulin, there’s plenty to keep you occupied on-site, from the swimming pool and well equipped children’s play area to the football pitch, gamesroom and even kayaks. And, with six properties all catering for families, it would be impossible not to make new friends.
The village of Plouguenast is a short walk away and boasts all amenities including the highly recommended restaurant “L’Auberge du Lie”, a boules court and for the super active a municipal tennis court, not to mention kayaks and bikes which are available for hire.
On-site help from Tim & Ruth
Owners Tim and Ruth live on-site and are available to help whenever you need a hand, or for any reservations you wish to make. They fell in love with Le Moulin de la Touche at first sight, and it’s not just them but their guests as well who describe it as “a little piece of heaven on earth”.
The variety of accommodation lends itself to a multitude of party sizes and has even hosted weddings, which Tim and Ruth are happy to help organise, by liaising with local restaurants and hire firms.
Tim says “We have lived in Brittany for 10 years now and we never tire of visiting these towns or the coast nor tire of telling everyone! Brittany is vast and has so much to offer the tourist as well as the people who have the luck to live there!” Why not discover all this for yourself? You’ll certainly receive a warm welcome from Tim and Ruth!
